Who Told You?

Who told you that you’re ugly? Who told you you’re less average? That you’re not worth loving and pursuing? That you’re not good enough? Who told you these lies? Many of us today have been living in the scars of what others have said against us.

Some of you might have been bullied in school, was put to hall of shame and criticized. Some might have been told all your life, even at home, how you’re not living up to your parents’ expectations and you’re a disappointment. But let me tell you this, it’s time to patch those scars up. Know that Your worth doesn’t come from what others say or think about you. Your worth comes from God—the One who created you. Don’t you ever listen to those lies. Don’t you ever be affected by those trash and let anyone treat you less than what you deserve.

Be reminded that when God created you, You are a reflection of His image because you were made after Him. You don’t need to look at magazines or social media and copy what they say is beautiful. You are beautiful as you are. Even if no one tells you how much you deserve to be loved, know that Christ died for you to save you from sin because His love for you is so vast that no one else can take you away from. If you think no one can love you as you are, you are wrong. Jesus loves you just as you are—no pretensions, no conditions, no hesitations. He loves the real You.

Stop trying so hard proving yourself to anyone so that you’d feel validated, liked or be loved in return. Stop! Don’t beg for love. You are already loved by the God who created you. Let His love satisfy you and fill your heart. Stop imitating someone else. You weren’t made to be that person. You were made to be You–called to make an impact in this world just as you are. Stop hating yourself, instead see the good in you. Enough treating yourself less and begin to embrace who you are. Others wouldn’t have the same qualities and skills as you have now. Stop comparing. Instead start owning your gifts and talents and learn to grow in it. It all begins by accepting who you are created to be and knowing that You are loved not because you are perfect but because God’s love is perfect and has no bounds.

To all my sisters out there, it’s about time to get confident with who God wants you to be rather than pretending to be someone else. Learn to love yourself and let others love you just as you are. Take off the mask and let that smile be shown so that the world will see the beautiful you. You are smart. You are brave. You are beautiful. You are loved. You are a child of God. You are worth pursuing and loving. You are bound for endless dreams. You are meant to be you.

Sincerely,

Abby Bern
