Worthy or Not

But God is rich in mercy because of his great love for us. We were dead because of our failures, but he made us alive together with Christ. (It is God’s grace that saved you.) God has brought us back to life together with Christ Jesus and has given us a position in heaven with him.

Ephesians 2:4-6 GW

The enemy will try his best to convince us to do things that will make us feel unworthy. He will give us thoughts that will make us question our value as a child of God. There are times when we struggle with our battle between the flesh and the spirit. Everyday, we encounter situations that will tempt us. There will be moments where a person will try to annoy us or scenarios that may lead us to giving in into any temptations.

The enemy wants us to become unrighteous in God’s sight. He wants us to end up rebellious against the Father. But God knows our weaknesses and He knows how we fail easily. Just as Jesus said to Peter during the time He was asking His disciples to pray in Gethsemane, instead, they all ended up sleeping,  41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(Matt26:41)

When Christ became a man, he was able to relate to us. He knew our weaknesses and He, too, experienced the same weaknesses we have. Yet, He was full of the Spirit that He remained righteous. Jesus experienced temptations too. One best example was when He fasted for forty days and nights in the Judaean Desert. But since He knows His Identity and His Worth, He wasn’t deceived by the lies of the enemy.

We may not be able to overcome temptation with our own strength but God made a way to help us through. Since God is Holy and Just, we all know that the penalty of Sin is death. But then God knew us so well and our needs, that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us. Christ’s death became the penalty for all our failures. Because of what Jesus did at the Cross, we become righteous. Remember, it’s not by our own efforts but by what Christ did for us that we have been forgiven and called holy. So stop being too hard on yourself. Look to the cross and depend on Christ in times of failures.

God the Father is so gracious that nothing can ever separate us from His love. He loves us whether we see ourselves Worthy or Not. Don’t let the enemy fool you about your standing in God. We have to remind ourselves daily that God sees us Righteous just as Jesus is Righteous. It was His Grace that made us worthy to be called God’s Children. We can come before the Father no matter what we’ve done or how we feel. He sees us blameless, forgiven, loved, and worthy of His blessings. Don’t let the shame of your past mistakes keep you from experiencing His goodness. Instead, seek Him and receive His grace without hesitations. He loves you just as you are.

Sincerely,

Abby Bern
