Who Am I?

A question which took time for me to answer and made me wonder if I really know who I am. How would I describe myself, my true identity if one asks about it? Will I be honest enough to tell the real me or be ashamed of it? Out of my curiosity, I made a list trying to check whether I truly know myself or not. I’m not sure if this is how other people see me but let me write this down at least without being judged or corrected. It took courage for me to share this in public. There’s a purpose why I’m doing this. It’s for you to find out! Enjoy reading!

What now?

Writing this list reminds me of creating a resumé, only this is more of an openbook, written with all honesty rather than the ones we put in our CV since we’d want to impress our future boss. This list also reminds me of the things you right in a Slambook for your crush to find out whether you’re both compatible or not (I don’t know if this still exists, but the 90’s kid can relate to this, I hope).

But as I go through this Self List, it made me think about how often we tend to look at other people and make presumptions about their character without even knowing who we truly are individually. We judge them first before we check our hearts whether we are aligned as to whom we were created to be.

On the other hand, we sometimes let others dictate who we are that we fail to recognize that what they’re saying isn’t the truth about us. We let them tell us whom we’re supposed to be that we base our personalities to it. Because we have this fear of rejection, we pretend to be somebody else to the point of forgetting how God created us uniquely with purpose.

There comes a time when we let the enemy trick us, thinking that he knows us so well, allowing him to whisper to our ears and dictate what he thinks of us. But he is a fool and we shouldn’t be fooled. I am so tired of the enemy trying to push me down with the lies he throws at me. How about you?

We need to dig deep and discover the real person whom God created us to be. It’s about time to shut the enemy’s lies and remind ourselves of how God sees us. We may all have flaws and weaknesses but Christ came to this world, shed His blood, so that our sins could be forgiven and our old selves be made New—a new creation resembling Christ’s image.

We have to keep in mind that we are a righteous child of God and because of the Father’s love for us, we also became like Christ— beloved, holy, free from condemnation, sin, sickness, lack, whatever the enemy tries to throw at us. All it takes is to believe that Christ is in us and we are His… have faith, knowing that your past is gone and new life has begun. God sees us the same way He sees His son Jesus. Let no one fool you about your standing with Christ.

It doesn’t matter how others sees you or how you see yourself. It’s not important what the enemy says about you. What’s more important is who you are in Christ. Renewed and Forgiven. Know that You are free. You are loved. You are important. You are beautiful. You are made for a purpose. You are a child of the most high God.

Sincerely,

Abby Bern

 God is love.
When we take up permanent residence in a life of love,
we live in God and God lives in us.
This way, love has the run of the house,
becomes at home and mature in us,
so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day

—our standing in the world
is identical with Christ’s.
