In the Eyes of a Match Maker

Ever wonder how God writes a love story? Does it make you wonder how God directs the universe just to bring two people together?

Read along and I will tell you a story that will make you understand the process of how God intertwine two different lives and make it as one. Here, I will expound stages on how God would normally piece together a love story.

Part 1 – Who is She?

Just to let you know, this story starts with terrible events that could actually prevent you from continuously reading but don’t get too disappointed, it’s only the beginning. It’s merely a part of a tale that actually has a happy ending.

Let me begin by introducing a girl named Ruth. Her name means Friendship. Imagine her as someone bubbly and lovable, someone who’d say “Hi” to you and give you a sweet smile in case you’d see her walking around. She must have been very pleasing and attractive.

However, Ruth married a guy named Mahlon which means “Sick”. Will you ever marry a person named Sick, Crazy, Heart Attack, or even worst Death? Every time you call out his name, you’d say “Hi Sick!”, “I Miss You Heart Attack!” or “I love you Death”. Not in a single second of my life will l ever desire to marry someone named like that. I’m exaggerating, but yeah, she married someone named Sick and he happened to have died 10 years after being together. How tragic was that? And so she ended up being a very young widow. (Ruth 1:3-5)

She had a Mother-in-Law named Naomi but she chose to name herself Mara which means “Bitter” since she lost not only her husband but also her two sons. She has all the right to be bitter after all she’s gone through.

Emotionally Related

So let’s just say both Ruth and Naomi were on the same boat. They can relate with each other. That is why, when Naomi decided to return to her home town, Ruth did not hesitate to follow her even though she had an option to leave. She loved Naomi like her own mother. This is what she has to say when Naomi tried to convince her to leave and part ways,

16But Ruth answered, “Don’t force me to leave you. Don’t make me turn back from following you. Wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. 17Wherever you die, I will die, and I will be buried there with you. May the LORD strike me down if anything but death separates you and me!”

Ruth 1:16-17

Ruth had such loyalty to her mother-in-law which led her to the next chapter of her life.

Stage 1: The “Challenging” Stage – God writes your story with events that will shape you as a person. A good novel always comes with a twist. It would be so dull if the plot is already predictable. It is the Story Conflict that makes it more interesting and causes us to want to know about what will happen next. Sometimes God uses these conflicts and allows difficulties to take place, where things won’t always go our way. The reason for this is for us to learn to rely on Him, trusting that He can turn a misery into a miracle.

This is a season where God begins to turn your sorrow into joy.

Is this how your 1st chapter is like? You had an awful relationship or a traumatic breakup in the past, someone may have abandoned you, destroyed your worth or even worst, you lost someone. But do know that, just as Ruth’s story, I believe it’s only the beginning. That is not how your Story is going to end.

We all long to have happy endings. But before we get there, remember that there are more pages we have to keep turning before we reach the end. So keep reading…

Sincerely,

Abby Bern
